excellent facilities, helpful and pleasant staff, great breakfast, comfortable bedrooms. only downside was hearing some noise from the street on saturday night

Hotel 1898 was the most wonderful Hotel, All the staff were kind and very efficient, most helpful. The Breakfast was superb and well worth the price. The location couldn`t have been better, it was central for all the Restaurants and Bars and the Hop on Hop off Bus which was great, it should be a Five Star Hotel.

The staff were very helpful particularly on reception. Service around the pool was a little slow but really it didn`t matter to us.

Stayed for a long weekend, the location is right in the heart of things, but not so that its noisy. the staff went out of their way to make us have a great stay. Champagne breakfast on the roof terrace was amazing! swimming pool very relaxing, all in all would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We arrived to find that our room was not available however this took only 10 mins to sort out and we had a realy nice room on the 4th floor at the side of the hotel.The breakfast which was included in our room cost was excelent and well presented. The heated roof top pool was a realy nice place to relax at the end of the day with good bar service, All in all a very nice place to stay and well positioned, would recomend to anyone.

The hotel is one of the nicest I have stayed in for a long time. As a family with twins of ten years old we need two rooms. Sadly Hotel 1898 does not have any interconnecting rooms. This turned out to be a real pain even though we were next to each other. It meant one adult and one child sleeping in each room.So our view really is that it is fabulous for couples, business people and families where the children are old enough to be in a room on their own, but for us it let us down.

Hotel is fantastic inside, but the best feature is the roof terrace, with shade, open areas & pool. No need to go to the beach, get covered in sand & fight the masses. Highly recommended.

Excellent Location ,Room and hotel generally spotless ,pleasant staff ,could not fault it , would recommend asking for a room with external veiw as some are situated around the central courtyard/lightwell.Would definately stay there again on our next trip to the cityJohn and Kelly.....................................................Southampton

The rooms are comfortable & a decent size.The buffet breakfast is excellent every thing you could possibly want.We did have one evening meal at the hotel, this is possibly the only area for improvement,maybe the hotel could employ a more creative chef.

Rooms very small, hardly any draw spaceDisappointed only one basin in bathroomRooftop terrace bar - couldn`t order a coffee, ordered an icecream and 20 mins later still hadn`t arrived!Spa swimmingpool very small and if you had two people on the floating beds there wasn`t enough room for two people to have a swim lengthwise.

Everything about the hotel was excellent - specially loved the spa and pool. Location great.

My friends and I were very impressed with hotel 1898. It is situated in a fanatastic location. The rooms were extremely comfortable. The roof top terrace, bar and heated pool were superb. The indoor spa and pool were great also. We could not have wished for anything more.

This is a great hotel in a great location. We have stayed twice and had a fantastic time on both occasions. Rooms are luxurious and modern with massive comfy beds.

The hotel staff were excellent and pleasant. Towels and sheets changed every day and sometimes towels twice per day. This was excellent. Spa great and I really enjoyed this. Maids kept rooms clean. Would have used the hotel for food if we had a better idea what they were offering. Too much fish and not enough for people who were none fish eaters. Also inviting people to come to hotel between 1700 and 1900 for free cup of tea- wallah - better a free drink possibly.

The hotel was immaculate and one of the best we have ever stayed in. We would definately recommend to anyone wishing a central location in Barcelona and they were very child friendly.

Superb location, extremely helpful staff, good restaraunt - would defintitely go back. Only slight drawback was that the rooms were too hot at night for my tastes and the air conditioning didn`t seem particularly effective.

Hotel in great location had rooms overlooking interior courtyard but these were very quiet and the staff looked after us very well. Towels changed on average twice a day, great breakfast spread. Worth the extra for such a lovely spa, heated roof top pool & great location. Much cheaper booking thro Hotel Direct.

Having just got back from Barcelona today I can highly recommend a stay at 1898 on La Rambla. The building itself is beautiful and is a perfect spot to see the city centre from on foot. Worth mentioning is the en-suite bathroom we had (standard room) which was better than some superior rooms I`ve stayed in. All in all it was ideal for our 3 day break. I can imagine the roof pool and terrace would be just what you`d need in the summer - for us there was a chill Northerly blowing which meant no swimming costumes needed....

Excellent stay - very polite staff - great spa and poolsDon`t take concierge recommendation for tour bus - there are no bus stops, it`s got poor commentary and takes twice as long as expected.

This hotel is not worth the money they are charging. There is a distict lack of customer focus. The staff seems to be more interested in talking to each other than to provide the service they are there to give. Our stay was not helped by coming back tired to the hotel after 5 hours sight seeing and finding that the room had not been cleaned.

A truly superb hotel, worth every penny.
