Be prepared for a lot and I mean a lot of noise due to the 3 Sisters Bar having full use of the forecourt with outside table and chairs, and also 3 televisions outside with a DJ at night, lots of people milling, which we found quite intimidating trying to get to the hotel entrance. If you are a student, fantastic!
I have stayed at Tailors Hall three times now. the first time which was some years ago it was great as it hadn`t quite got the stag and hen party reputation it has now. Since then however the hotel has gone down hill quite a lot on standards of decor etc but it has retained its good atmosphere. Due to threadbare carpets, broken toilet in our room, not breakfast being included in the price which was £150 for a triple room, i would consider the hotel now to be more like a hostel. However, the staff were friendly and helpful. it is in a great location. so if you just want somewhere to get your head down - bedding and bathrooms were clean- because you are having a party trip to Edinburgh, this is the place. if you want something little more up market, then it is isnt.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Bank Hotel, Edinburgh and not Tailors hall as we were moved when arrived!Glad we did as it looked as if would of been very noisy - lots of young ones arriving.Val Gardiner
This hotel has a good and interesting history. and therefore can be forgiven for being situated in a less than salubrious area of Edinburgh. The directions they gave us to find the hotel were not good and resulted in our walking much further than needed with our cases. however once we arrived the staff were welcoming. The rooms were adequate but could have done with a lick of paint. One of our cups had no handle and in one room there was no extra blanket. The shower was fantastic - powerful and hot. We had asked for rooms away from the noise of the bar, and there was indeed minimal noise during our stay. We had continental breakfast and this was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Dont expect miracles from this hotel but it was good value for money.
Ideal for groups of young people wanting a really lively pub and live music. My own room was quiet, reasonably clean and well heated, but rather dark and shabby. Staff helpful and friendly. Excellent bar food next door in the pub. Cowgate though it leads out to busy bright areas and is near to the National Museum and bus routes to town is actually a menacing road to walk down after dark with few shops or cafes, odd dark turnings and doorways.
Second room, one bed unusable, had to pull mattress unto floor to sleep as the base was gone....
enjoyed our stay, food in the three sisters was excellent, atmosphere in the bar was great. would have no hesitation in booking hotel again
Room was compact but it was nice and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Close to all attractions
The rooms could benefit from a refresh and the noise from the Three Sisters can be a major problem for some rooms as the bar is open `til 3am. We had to change rooms as the originally booked room overlooked the courtyard, and we were not warned about the noise until the early hours.
The Safe was not working, Female staff not interested in fixing, did offer Receiption safe but this was not suitable as items were needed regularly. Breakfast was poor, dry rubbery bacon and egg, old stock grapes, staff took far too long to greet and provide drinks, I ended up with hot water as only normal tea available, no herbal which are avilable in other hotels and anywhere abroad, very disappointed. Shower Head was leathal, shot off the fixing, spraying everywhere, I heard another guest complain of the same thing at breakfast. Asked directions for Indian Restraunt first night, got shrug of shoulders, no attempt to assist this was the same person who said of the safe `I suppose we`ll have to get it fixed` but didn`t. Second night one of the young Male Staff gave us a map and directions to a couple of Indian Restraunts.
The hotel from outside looked ok however not ideal if you want a quiet night as the bar is attached to the building next door and people tend to sit in the courtyard which is directly under your window so the noise is a problem. Also the rooms are vey basic, which could not only do with a lick of paint but the holes filling in the walls where pictures are supposed to be but seems that they haven`t got round to putting any up yet! Also to say its a no smoking hotel the room stank of cigarrette smoke and we had to change rooms the first night - we were not the only ones apparently either as speaking to several other guests this had also been an issue. Overall very disappointing and i wont be recommending this hotel to anyone.
Noisy, I was aware that this hotel hosts one of the most popular pubs in Edinburgh. The noise from the pub was loud but finished at 1 am which was okay, however I was not prepared for the staff emptying bins , clanging bottles until 2.30 - 3.00 am
It may have looked ok on website - old character hotel but this was not what I expected or would ever visit again! Noise at 2.00am/ 3.00am from 3 sisters club nearby kept us awake. Also small dark window - just horrble - staff nice that`s all I can say!
Very disappointed in the room. Really run down, wall paper on ceiling hanging off at all seams, walls have had fittings removed and holes left untouched, shower leaked from the hose at both ends, the floor ended up being very wet and dangerous. No electric sockets where required and ones that were there had switches missing.
We have stayed at the Tailor`s Hall on three occasions and we know very well that there is a popular pub on the ground floor, but we have not previously been disturbed to the level we were this time. We believe there was a private party at the pub on Saturday night, and we can appreciate they need the revenue. However, despite our room being on the side/back away from the entrance, we were still aware of shouting and screaming going on well into the small hours (till about 4a.m.), and we found this irritating. While we would not discount returning to the Tailors Hall, I think we would now look at other possibilities or, at least, ask whether any private parties were planned. Hotel staff were their normal helpful selves.
Whilst the hotel`s manager could speak English, his accent (not Scottish) was totally incomprehensible. Not ideal when he`s trying to explain anything about your stay.Add to this that the lift to the rooms smelt of urine, and that we were woken up at 5am by a fire alarm (apparently a result of a broken pipe in another room that obviously meant everyone else had to be woken up).Overall, a lovely looking hotel. But some fairly major issues re. hygiene and customer service.
well equiped room. nicely decorated. breakfast well worth having.
Knew about the proximity of the lively pub, but this was not too bad. Wouldn`t be good for young families. Whole hotel needs a really good clean and redecoration. Generally shabby. More worrying was an exposed light fitting in the bathroom. Cupboard lights sellotaped into bathroom unit. One socket had a switch missing so couldn`t be used. Hairdryer stated it had failed safety inspection. Mould on bathroom ceiling. Smelt very damp. Staff very helpful and breakfasts good. Excellent location. If enjoy a lively location and only looking for a room to sleep in it was OK.
We were disappointed as the hotel we were sent to was only a budget hotel where as Taylor`s Hall was 3*. Although Grass Market was clean it was nto as good as the one we had picked.
Great location for all the activities and sights of Endinburgh.
Front rooms can be noisy. Rear rooms are quieter.
The Techno music blasting out until the early hours, took the shine off this hotel for me. And it was a Thursday night, anyone doing business the next day would be unwise to stay here.
Great Staff making up for really uncomfortable beds...bathroom was a little mouldy too.
Very good for socialising, excellent bar. little noise from bar at night, didn`t bother us but not the place if you wanted a quiet weekend. overall excellent service and great for weekend away!
Good location for all the city centre attractions, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room and breakfast was nice. The noise from the Cowgate and surrounding clubs was quite annoying at night, would inticipate it being worse at the weekend. No parking or not even a loading area caused inconvience. Overall though an affordable and decent place to stay.
The Hotel is in a great location in the centre of Edinburgh . When we booked we realised that there wasa pub by the hotel so expected some noise. However there is also a nightclub on the other side and our first night was too noisy to sleep . Staff at the hotel were brilliant and changed and upgraded our room and the remaining three nights were great. Also organised a very early breakfast for us as we had early flights to catch on our departure. I would stay there again, but not being a party animal I would ask for rooms on the top floor or avoid weekends or more busy times of the year. We had a lovely stay in Edinburgh!
we will use hotels direct in the futcher as i like how things were delt with
My daughter and I had a brilliant stay at the Tailors Hall Edinburgh. We could not fault the location of the hotel and the room was ideal. The staff were all so helpful. Next time we are in Edinburgh we will look forward to staying there again. We have suggested the hotel to lots of our friends. I`m not sure if you could help me? The hotel sold Three Sisters T shirts. The Three Sisters is the pub a joining the hotel. They were out of stock when we were there, is there any way you could give me there Email address to try and order T shirts for my 3 daughters? I know its a bit much to ask. If you can help I would appreciate it.
We stayed at Tailors Hall for three days in the week, the room was clean and the breakfasts were fantastic. The walls are quite thin and you can hear alot of what goes on around the hotel, although as it wasn`t the weekend this was not a problem. From the room we were stayng in we had no noise from the pub below.#All in all a good stay, the only negative point i would make is that the bed wasn`t very comfortable - very lumpy/springy!
i have stayed in many hotels in various cities but this has to be the best, the room was large and clean the staf were friendly and informativeand the food was second to none. the 3 sisters pub next door was also excellent and it is nicely situated for the city centre..will defo be back again soon .
